My Icelandic Adventure with My Mom

In honor of Mother’s day I decided to write about my trip to Iceland I took with my mom. Yes, the trip was 4 months ago but better late than never.
I love to travel and viewing all the wonders of the world is on my bucket list. Of course, the northern lights are one of the natural wonders and this past December I happen to find a great deal to see the Aurora Borealis in Iceland. The only problem was finding an actual travel buddy who wanted to travel to Iceland in January! Well, I found the perfect person – my newly retired mother. My mom is always up for an adventure, especially if its outdoors.
So we booked our trip; five days and four nights in Reykjavik, the capital. We did so much in those five days! Our first day we walked all around Reykjavik including a stop at Hallgrímskirkja – a Lutheran church – its steeple gave you an amazing view of the city. The second day was our favorite. It started at 11am when our tour guide Ivar, met us at our hotel, and it ended at 2am. We saw and explored the countryside! During our all day/night tour we hiked the Parliament (a national park), enjoyed the Strokkur Geysir, saw Gullfoss (the Golden waterfall), swam at a natural hot spring, and ended the day in the middle of nowhere searching for the Northern Lights. Which we eventually found…they were absolutely breathtaking.
The next days were spent exploring the hills and streets of Reykjavik checking out the museums, the cuisine, and the locals. The final day we saved for The Blue Lagoon; the famous geothermal spa. It was awesome and relaxing for our trip home!
I have been fortunate to have traveled to many countries and my Iceland trip, with my mom is definitely one of my top 3. Iceland is a beautiful country and the weather was perfect for our outdoor activities. It was actually colder in New York that week. Traveling with my mom is the best! She loves learning about new places and different cultures and is ALWAYS eager to travel. I can’t wait to plan next year’s annual trip!
